It is also the crossroads of major migration routes and ,during overwintering, it hosts several species of native wetlands birds, that can be observed from the bird watching stations, such as ponds and many natural pools all along the property. The Reserve provide also habitat for a precious wildlife of both small and medium-sized mammals such as foxes, deer, boars, badgers, squirrels, hares and large-sized farm mammals as horses, bovine and donkeys. Just outside the main structure, people can make jogging, long walking along the lake, riding horses and discovering the wildlife thanks to the different bird watching stations. Cascina Borgofrancone is located in the northernmost tip of the lake Como, very close to Valtellina, Valchiavenna. This good position allows to practise both water (kitesurf, windsurf, canoa..) and mountain sports ( trekking, hiking, skiing..). The surrounding territory is rich in natural, historic and cultural heritage. There are different historic sites and medieval villages.
